Revlon Lip Butters Review

WARNING: After this blog post you may become addicted to Revlon Lip Butters, don’t say I didn’t try and warn you!

Revlon Lip Butters have been a staple in my make-up bag ever since they hit make-up stands nationwide in the UK last year. If you haven’t tried them yet I urge you to pick one (or maybe even two…) up next time you are shopping, they are honestly unlike any lip product you will have tried before!

I would say lip butters are probably the wrong name for them. When I bought my one first I was expecting a very sheer, fruity scented lip balm product, something similar to The Body Shop lip butters, however I was shocked/pleased to experience something very different. Revlon’s Lip Butters have the texture and the moisture of a lip balm but yet the pigmentation of a MAC lipstick. This is a combination that I haven’t seen before but love, I get the colour I desire but not the drying, chapped lip effect so many lipsticks give you after a few hours of wear. Whilst they don’t last as long on the lip as traditional lipsticks they are SO easy to apply you don’t even need a mirror. You honestly cannot go wrong with these! However, it is important to point out that despite the yummy names these lip butters have they in fact have no fragrance to them which may disappoint some who are expecting delicious scents based on the array of quirky food related names.

I have 5 different colours so far yet I went into Boots recently and I noticed they had brought out some new shades which are gorgeous so I think I will be adding a few more to my collection very soon…

From L-R: Peach Parfait, Berry Smoothie, Juicy Papaya, Raspberry Pie and Strawberry Shortcake

Strawberry Shortcake 080: This was the shade that started my love affair with lip butters. A lovely light blue toned pink which I wore none stop last summer. It actually reminds me of another favourite of mine, MAC Crème Cup and I would actually go as far to say that this lip butter is a very good dupe which is great seeing as MAC have increased their lipstick prices yet again.

Berry Smoothie 050: My current favourite out of my collection, I find this subtle pink/berry colour easily transitions from spring/summer to autumn/winter making it my go to lip product when I can’t make a decision about what lipstick to wear, which is the only downfall of having such a large collection!

Juicy Papaya 027: I was immediately drawn to this shade when it was released this summer as I had nothing else like it in my collection. I wore this bright orange colour on my holiday and loved it as this shade looks especially nice next to a tan. If you are wanting to give brighter colours a go but feel nervous about it I would recommend lip butters as they all give great pigmentation but are still slightly sheer so they aren’t to in your face.

Raspberry Pie 010: Raspberry Pie is a dark pink/berry shade which look divine in the bullet, however not so great on me. I think this would look great on ladies with darker skin tones and unfortunately I feel I am too pale to carry it off, which has resulted in me not wearing this shade as much as the others.

Peach Parfait 025: I have saved the best till last! This is my ultimate favourite in my collection, I love it so much that this is actually my second tube of this shade. I find this light peach colour great for day time despite the glitter in it. Whilst glitter in a lipstick would normally put me off, in this product it is very subtle and adds to the “my lips but better” effect this shade gives me.

Swatches Top to Bottom:

Juicy Papaya
Raspberry Pie
Strawberry Shortcake

You can purchase Revlon Lip Butters from most “drug store” retailers for £7.99 RRP. Boots currently have a promotion on at the moment where you can get 2 Revlon products for £10, which include lip butters (hurray!). Even though I DO NOT under any circumstances need any more lip products I have a feeling I may pop in soon and snap up Candy Apple after seeing it looking lovely on my favourite blogger Estee over at essiebutton.com

I would love to know what you think of Revlon Lip Butters. Do you love them as much as me and is there any other colours I should check out?
